Preparing Essential Oils
The best formula for preparing oils is roughly 1/4 to 1/2 cup of carrier oil for every 8 to 10 drops of essential oils. If you want to use more than one carrier oil and/or essential oil, you can divide the recipe into equal parts. For example, if you wanted to make a treatment with rosemary and lavender oil with jojoba and sweet almond oil, you could mix 5 drops of rosemary, 5 drops of lavender oil, 1/4 cup jojoba oil and 1/4 cup sweet almond oil together.
How to Use Essential Oils
To apply your essential oils for natural hair care, create your diluted blend and follow these steps:
1. Dampen the pads of your fingers with the essential oil.
2. Reach into your hair and massage your scalp with your fingers for roughly 5 to 10 minutes. Focus on rubbing your scalp, not on touching your hair.
3. If your hair is dry, you can allow the oils to remain on your scalp as a leave-in. Otherwise, you can rinse well after use.
Giving your scalp a massage with essential oils by following these steps every night can go a long way toward promoting a healthy scalp and gorgeous locks.
Keeping Essential Oils Fresh
Even after they are opened, essential oils can remain fresh for years provided that you store them in a cool, dry location out of direct sunlight. If your essential oils came in clear bottles, you may want to transfer them to amber glass bottles to protect the oils and decrease the risk of their active chemicals breaking down in the light.
